Hey, at least that makes sense and give me some more context.

This album seems to fly right over the heads of everyone who dislikes it, which is ironic given the main criticism being the perceived brainlessness and bravado. Oof the opeth comparison is way off. Your assessment of his fanbase and current music is completely warped as well - SYL is still what he's best known for in the metal community, to the point where he had to tell fans that he would never play SYL material again to shut them up, yet "he should just get SYL back together" has been said so often its become a running joke within the fanbase. This is far more emotionally "genuine" than anything he's done since Synchestra (hello? The bridge of Detox is a pure plea for help), you and many others somehow seem to have just completely missed how that vulnerability is framed.

The "he should get SYL back together" crowd are the vocal minority.

Just hate this kind of extreme metal, that's all. Don't like parody stuff either. There's obviously an audience for it so why not an anti-audience? Fuck Townsend's goofy ass anyway lol.

But his goofiness is what makes him so damn lovable. Life is too short to take stuff seriously all the time. Especially music.

Dude, one of my favorite bands is HORSE the band, so I get it. But this isn't my brand of goofy.

That's fair. Franky I'm not always in the mood for Devy's shenanigans either.

I’ll stop after this because I’m not reeeally trying to be a dick. But I do have parameters for goofiness in music. You want to write a song about Megaman villains on your Korg? Fuck yeah. You want to write a song about Earth Day and wank your guitar for 10 minutes? No fucking thank you lol.

Finally listened to this album. Don't know why it took me so long as I always have a heart for industrial metal no matter if mixed with other genres (I really like industrial death metal).
I couldn't believe song 2 and especially 3, that was insane! Even if the songs after got more and more "normal" and less brutal they're really well structured and enjoyable.

Well Rob Flynn's new lyrics did one thing right. They reminded me how much better Strapping is than Machine Head.
