Yeah I don't think there's anything particularly creepy about the lyrics on this beyond the level of creepiness that inherently comes with reflecting on unrequited love and romance in general.

i've always considered it to be principally about a love affair between the protagonist/lyricist's real experience and a girl in a long-term relationship who's unwilling to risk/sacrifice the comfort of that for something new (however intense and meaningful), untested or transitory.
or maybe i'm merely projecting my own experience of such situations onto those lines.
