Haha oh I get it. Now I see, Placebo went all stylish after hearing some AIR records (probably not) and incoprated some electro infused with sombre goth rock and created a awesome record back in 2003, and I guess Davey jumped on board. But then its just my little story, I know you dont agree. But hey 37mm works for me

The production of this album is utter s*** and rubbish to be honest. Take 'Love Like Winter' for example. The loud and quiet sections of the song are played at exactly the same volume which results with the songs sounding VERY dull.
Yeah it's this little thing that people who work in the music industry use, it's called compression, and well in this case, limiting. It is used to bump up the volume of an album, especially tracks that will be played on the radio, so it is as loud as it can possibly be. Oh, and it is done on 90% of major label releases... so sorry that a music industry standard resulted in terrible production to you.

Well AFI you've done it. Its been a slow progression over the years, but you've worked hard, made your music more and more mild, weeded out most of the stylings that gave you a punk edge, and finally arrived at your goal of bland radio rock.
It's been quite a journey. Ah the memories...

This album is...excellent!

I laughed when you said that Miss Murder was in a compound time signature. I was listening to it, and It's definitely in 4/4.

Nah, AFI is more like this...
Sing the Sorrow>The Art of Drowning>DECEMBERUNDERGROUND>Black Sails in the Sunset>...
their old stuff is so unoriginal and like everything else.
|
| |
Okay. You most likely enjoy their bland and unoriginal old stuff better, correct?
|
| |
Well Black Sails and up is good stuff, but before that, it's really shitty repetitive unoriginal punk.
|
| |
AFI was pretty good before Black Sails. You're pissing me off again trib. I try and be supportive but you don't know anything about pre-Black Sails AFI so shut up.
ATASF and VPoY had great singles. This Message Edited On 10.01.07

Wait, they were unoriginal, repetitive, and awesome?
I personally think that Jade's influence was greater in the overall tone and attitude of the music than the song structuring (although some of his songs on BSITS and TAoD are some of my favorites).
For me Answer that and stay fashionable, very proud of ya, and shut your mouth + open your eyes are all great, but albums were good all the way through STS. They've just slowly moved away from the kind of music they used to play. Nothing wrong with that...This Message Edited On 10.02.07

I'm sorry, but this album gives me hives to listen to.
|
| |
All Hallow's EP
Black Sails in the Sunset
The Art of Drowning
Prior to these 3, AFI were average, working their way up.
After these three releases, I lost all respect for AFI.
Decemberunderground is just boring and very unimaginative.

For me it's Black Sails, Sing The Sorrow, Art of Drowning, then DU. Not that AoD and DU are comparable. Let's say there's an inch between Black Sails, sorrow, and drowning. There's 10 miles between drowning and DU.
Their only "unoriginal" work is DU. It's just every other 'scene' band of today. They went from hardcore punk with amazing poetic lyrics and excellent music and energy to shitty pop-rock with horribly cliche lyrics.
This album's okay on it's own, I'd probably give it a 3 or a 3.5. It's only because it's AFI that it's so disappointing.
