This is probably their worst record and it's still not that bad, it just doesn't have the same warm, pastoral vibe that their first 2 have.

Yeah id agree there, it also sounds conflicted in places. Dig the progressive/experimental places but less user friendly, actually way less user friendly.

I think this is the best thing they've done. When I hear this album, it's actually hard to go back to Helplessness Blues and appreciate it on the same level because Crack-Up is so much more experimental and challenging.

That's fair, I just feel like "experimental and challenging" doesn't really play to Pecknold's strengths as a songwriter, or at least to what I find appealing about his writing.

i'd agree that this is their best work. always considered helplesness blues to be their best, but this works so perfectly as an album. hb has the better individual tracks, but there's not a song on this i'd skip.
on top of that, i (now) have some very nice memories attached to this record from around the time it was released, which definitely helps haha

This has some duds, mainly the more popular songs, but so many breathtaking and amazing moments overall.

Cassius is so underrated...that outro is breathtaking

The last four songs are near flawless, what a brilliant run to end it off. The things before get a little too experimental for me, especially listening back to back with Helplessness Blues. Miss the “folk-ier” portions. But again, only two listens so far and this definitely seems like one that needs more than that.
On Another Ocean though. Phew. Beautiful.

Take it from someone who has had Helplessness Blues ranked as a decade top 10 album since 2010 - this record is even better.

Nah, Helplessness is the perfect balance between melodic, tighter songwriting and flowing, progressive instrumentation. This one gets a bit too stuck up its own ass at times, it doesn’t stick with me quite as much.

Helplessness is my least favourite but i'm not entirely sure why - might just have been released at the wrong time to grab me

Helplessness Blues > Fleet Foxes LP > Sun Giant > Crack-Up > Fleet Foxes EP.
And yeah robert Tillman’s drumming is the best drums on a FF release.
