I've listened to this album so much in the last few months. I think it's close to perfect minus a few minor grievances I should've made more clear in the review: I think the second half is a lot stronger--or rather Ink-City of Ghosts (which is most of the album) is a magnificent stretch. Why We Fought is my least favourite song on this, and as much as I love An Old Fire and Aging, I think the album feels a little asymmetrical and initially jarring because we don't return to the a capella or any significantly synthetic instrumental break after them. I'm glad they're on here, they're bordering on essential, but I think they could've been incorporated better.

Oh, man, Ink is so lovely, though. A New Fire, Haze, Hail to the Abyss, Horizon and City of Ghosts. All excellent. Manuel manages to create these weird little pockets in his music that are pretty much hypnotic. That's one place where I see the Bon Iver influence, I suppose. It's something I wish I could do in my own music.

Had to finish talking about this album, might edit it into the review later on. I've had this project on my mind for too long, it's very affecting.

Those are very interesting points Blush, I thought the interludes would help the listener to stomach the album better but yeah I could have played a bit more with their placement. Noted for the next!

I can imagine it'd be a tricky thing to balance. On one hand, it means a significant portion of the start of the album isn't quite like the rest; but on the other, without them, the later tracks wouldn't be quite as impactful. Ultimately, I suppose it's rather inconsequential in the grander scheme of the album, it's just one of the only real criticisms I have in terms of the structure. ((: Still jamming this thing, gonna need to stop.

Lol that's cool man, the order was quite random tbh, I only knew I wanted to start with the Fire combo and finish with Ghosts, Aging was almost improvised when I recorded it and wasn't to be included as it was. I still think a lot of stuff could be better but I guess it came out the way it should, as before that I always ended up saturating the songs with instrumentation.

Just a heads up! Cause I am not gonna make a news item or a list, having this wonderful Blush review to bump.

I released 5 minutes ago a new track. It's one of the unreleased tracks of this album, little bit reworked. Hope you enjoy it!
