Interesting development

idk it feels super layered in a way that reminds me of pygmalion. it’s obviously still a -new slowdive song- but it passes the vibe check, so does skin in the game. kisses should be deleted from the album

Pygmalion you say? I’m trying not to explode into unadulterated joy over here

actually, still not a big fan of kisses, but it's the best one from the three singles for me
not getting any Pygmalion from these, just generic dream pop

I like kisses. There’s something about it.

it doesn’t sound like pygmalion do not think that lol what i mean is the layering, there are a lot of subtleties and strings 2 grab onto. kisses is generic dream pop and the other two actually sound like “what if slowdive were old people and wrote slowdive songs”

Skin in the game is alright as well, I’m listening now.

The Slab gives me hope and is an excellent choice to close the album and provides the clearest evidence so far that the 5th album had been originally conceived by Neil as a more minimal electronic record. I love their reverb drenched guitar but the prospect of a Pygmalion 2 - that would have been perfect.

Bandcamp quote: “The new record began with Halstead in the role of writer and producer, working on demos at home. Experimenting with modular synths, Halstead originally conceived of everything is alive as a "more minimal electronic record." Slowdive's collective decision-making ultimately drew the group back towards their signature reverb-drenched guitars, but that first concept seeped into the compositions.”

After just one listen, The Slab goes straight to my favorite songs of all time playlist! I'm insanely pleased with it, I feel that this sound will change my life for the better.

The first two have left me somewhat underwhelmed. After the comeback album not straying too far from Souvlaki territory - something a little more outlier like a minimal electronic album would have been very welcome and would definitely have halted any potential slipping into a comfort/stale zone. Let’s hope album no.5 doesn’t.

Hey Watchman, have you been a fan of Slowdive for quite a while?

Unfortunately I’m old enough that I bought their first EP on vinyl when it came out. So been with them from day 1.

You've lived through the best period in human history, that's quite fortunate imo.

A 70’s child and an 80’s teenager. Always considered myself blessed with the music and bands that formed as I was growing up.

Experiencing the birth and then continual development and evolution of so many genres whose DNA or influence is still alive today, is a wonderful thing.
