I haven't logged in for years, but I just had to. This "review" is awful, and the fact that you're a staff reviewer reminds me how far this site has fallen
I haven't listened much and not sure about the album yet, but this reads like high school. Cedric can't yell anymore, get over it.

he can yell actually. he still yells quite well, didn't say he couldn't

Cedric's vocals are the least of this album's problems

Great review. I wish there was more breathing room as well. Apart from Ghost Tape No. 9 this album just keeps going and going and going, without much to set each song apart from eachother. After a few listens everything just started blending together. I really like Torentially Cutshaw though.

yeah it's weird how jagged and off kilter Omar and the gang play, yet this things still feels shapeless. i should have mentioned ghost tape no. 9 though since it does dial back a bit. maybe i'll slip it in there

Album doesn't come out (officially) for 2 more days, could you not have held off posting this until then? I'm not a butthurt fanboy or anything, it's just this review is going to somewhat influence peoples opinions when they hear it on Friday, believe it or not reading something negative about something before experiencing it yourself will to some degree alter your enjoyment of it. Like obviously people have the option not to read the review, but I just think it's best to hold off until the official release date, that way you're less likely to negatively influence anyones enjoyment of the album. Cos trust me, even if someone loves an album, if they see a staff member give it a 1/5, they'll either go nuts and attack you, or they'll enjoy the album less. This effect has an actual name but I can't remember what its called

i've had the album for 2 weeks now. for a major label promo, i can't ask for much more preparation than that. posting reviews on or before the official release date is just how the reviewing game works. ideally, it would be nice to sit on an album for months on end to see how it settles, but nobody cares about reading reviews for albums that have already been discussed by dozens of other publications. sputnik relies pretty heavily on getting in on the action in a timely matter. considering none of us get paid, we do pretty well in that regard. you should be thanking me for 'putting myself out there' and criticizing a band near and dear to my heart just so you guys could have a sneak peek. i don't even use my real name (tristan jones is just a moniker) so there's really nothing in it for me, aside from the occasional joy in writing.

"it's just this review is going to somewhat influence peoples opinions when they hear it on Friday"

kinda the point of a new-album review, man.

"believe it or not reading something negative about something before experiencing it yourself will to some degree alter your enjoyment of it."

or, it might encourage them to view the album a certain way. i say plenty of good things about it, btw. i'd say i was as fair as i could be despite being middled by it, myself.

"that way you're less likely to negatively influence anyones enjoyment of the album"

you could apply the same line of reasoning to people using positive reviews to affect other people's enjoyment. should i criticize you if your opinion in a review skews the opinions of readers positively? it goes both ways

" if they see a staff member give it a 1/5, they'll either go nuts and attack you"

i don't give intentionally provocative negative ratings in my reviews. i'm not too worried.

Lol the people trashing the production on this record seem to forget that ROC was one of the most overproduced albums ever and in/CASINO/OUT sounded like it was recorded in Steve Albini's asshole, so this is pretty much par for the course
