Alt I noticed on your track ratings you only put one of the songs here close to classic status - is that because it's early days or are this band just a 3-3.5 track sorta deal, solid but lacking in true classic songs?

don't pay too much attention to my 4.0-5.0 track ratings, I'm not very consistent with these in that range, basically anything that got more than 3.5 from me can be considered a "classic". "wonder where i'm from" is definitely a song that hit me the hardest here.
as for the band being "just a 3-3.5 track sorta deal", it's actually pretty accurate when it comes to 69 love songs and this one (both albums are definitely more than sums of their parts), but i wouldn't say that about the band in general. well ok i'll admit that most of their songs even in their classic period (pre-2000s) belong to this range but boy do they have some incredible highlights

I've only just listened to the three songs available from the debut on youtube but I'm really not enjoying them - would rather listen to Peter Jefferies where the vox are a more pleasing mix with the lo fi style for my tastes. All these songs are female sung which is odd too :/

Listening to the second album in full now...has a few interesting moments, it's more about the textures winning me over than the songs though. The vocals are just there, ultra bland ice queen vibes for me, they make Nico look sparky and I don't think they match the musical backdrop AT ALL, he should have started singing himself from the start. Total emotional disconnect.

Yeah this second album is grinding me down, very sickly experienced as a whole and the vocals are just relentless and don't suit the twee backdrop.
It's still probably my favourite of what I've heard by them so far, so a 3/5.

Listening to the Spotify 'selections' from the new one, the first song up sounds like a Flight of the Conchords spoof thing...aaaaahhh, give me a classic song Merritt you goof. I'm really struggling with this lot.

Yeah YOU're struggling... The above three posts gave me cancer my friend

The Spotify selection starts with the cat song, not the one you rate highly - no idea why.
Anyway, I'll bump my rating here to a 2 and wave goodbye to Merritt from hereon out. Can't win them all, raising the white flag.

This album is so damn catchy. It gets better and better with every listen. The first two discs' songs are constantly stuck in my head.

I really like some of these songs, but man this guy's vocals and melodies are boring as shit
It's fine but I hate that I've wasted 5 hours on my life on something "fine"
