"they managed to make the TOOL sound their own".

This is the only thing I don't like about Soen. If they would be able to drop this and focus
on doing their own thing they would be breaking ground for me.

If there's anyone who's managed to make the Tool sound their own, then that's Rishloo. Soen are closer now to Katatonia and Opeth than they are to Tool.

I don't know Mythodea... last Rishloo's release sounded very far away from TOOL and closer to Pink Floyd and 70's prog IMO.

That's what I mean. Their debut was a Tool ripoff (well, theoretically), but they steadily improved the sound and made it their own, to the point where the incorporation was so complete, it wasn't even obvious.

the bass on Orison reminds me a bit of Reflection, but that's all the Tool vibe I get. Even the tone is different.

I'll have to check this out soon, I believe I streamed the opening track on release date and it left a positive impression on me

Really solid release. Certainly hear the Tool influences, particularly on the first couple of tracks. The track I keep coming back to is Paragon. That is a monumental tune.

I dug Tellurian, and from the snippets I've heard from this it sounds promising, but I'm going to give it the solid listen. My favorite part of this band is probably the Opethian riffing and not so much the Maynard vocals, but they are fine. Lopez is one heck of a drummer and I'm glad he's still making music.

Vocals sound so much like Akerfeldt it's almost disturbing

They are very similar, but Mikael's voice isn't this smooth, neither has this range.

Sweet album. Probably a good gateway to get someone into proggier metal

Soen continue to find their own voice through Lykaia. With many of their contemporaries changing musical direction or halting progress altogether, it's encouraging to hear a new band provide an excellent contribution to progressive metal. Soen used to wear their influences on their sleeve, but have impressively been moving away from this trend and are sounding more original. Lykaia might sound like Opeth, Riverside, or even Pink Floyd at times, but maintains a distinct voice and stands as an impressive, well above average album for fans of Tool, Katatonia, and other similar groups.

Enjoyable album. Think I like it a little more than Tellurian, which was great.

It's a very solid album. I'm surprised, from panning reviews and comments, that I haven't seen many mentions of a Katatonia influence, though. I heard it loud and clear on Lykaia.

Nonetheless, it's good, and better suited to their singer than their previous albums.

there's definitely a Katatonia undertone on this, but I wanted to stray from the opinion that wants this band to rip off Opeth and Tool and making another comparison wouldn't help. But, on the suggestions I put Katatonia's latest album, agreeing there is a certain similarity.

Never cared for Tool at all tbh. These guys rules though.

Def get way more of an Opeth/Katatonia vibe from them too.
