Listening to this for the first time, astounded at acoustic-guitar driven the whole thing is. Immigrant Song has never sounded so out of place

Tangerine is really good, what don't you like about the vocals?

The production on them sounds very different, almost like it’s a live performance. The vocals tracks sound out of sync, off pitch, and then some of the melodies just make no sense. For example when he sings “and now a thousand years, betweeeeeeen”, that part drives me nuts. He sounds terrible. The note he lands doesn’t fit with the chords beneath it and it sounds so lazy like a melody a high schooler came up with. Why did he stop singing there and just hold out that long note? Couldn’t think of any other lyrics to write for that part? Idk, something just doesn’t gel there. And seriously he is so off pitch it hurts to listen to, which is weird because he barely ever has that problem. Sounds like they tried one take and called it good

I swear there’s no compression on the vocals either. When he first comes in you can’t hear a goddamn thing he says, then other parts are too loud. Just a total mess, and not a single other song on this album has any of these problems so I’m just scratching my head

Fair enough, I'll give it a listen later and try to see it through that lens.

Got my vinyl copy of this back today (my dad accidentally took it a year or two ago when he mistook it for his own copy) and jamming it now, such an amazing album.
5/5: Gallows Pole* > Since I've Been Loving You > That's the Way > Friends
4.5/5: Tangerine > Celebration Day > Immigrant Song
4/5: Out on the Tiles > Bron-Y-Aur Stomp
3.5/5: Hats Off to (Roy) Harper
*2nd fave Zep tune, only behind "Ten Years Gone"
Every rating below 4.5 is prob a bit harsh tbh
