As far as I see it it's about society not allowing people with other opinions, nonconforming people etc. Panthers are special and dogs are normies.
Edgy teenage angst stuff, yea

the music compensates for most of the bad lyrics, tbh, but I still need that extra ''oomph'' that made previous albums amazing. Where's the Daniel that penned 'America'? That song was simple still, but at least it wasn't vauge references of men in suits ruling the world.

Yeah Scarsick had cringe in the delivery sometimes but the lyrics were pretty well done. Don't find it particularly horrible on Panther though, just underwhelming. The music is pretty great after two listens, but a grower for sure, as all PoS albums are. The singles give quite a wrong first impression on the album as a whole though, even though they fit the album very well (really weird that, I know). 'Wait' is gorgeous, probably my favorite at the moment. That lush Spanish guitar + piano interplay is pure sex.

Yea, I didn't expect them to be this melodic again. It's no Perfect Element kind of melodic, but it's definitely something ITOLoD was missing

Yeah I think Dan's pen has gotten really worse throughout the year. I mean, I still like this disc a lot, but I can't say it's all PofS-level lyricism.
But tbh 'Restless Boy' is a jam and it's quite unique as in style, so I can't really complain. I don't think "Accelerator"'s lyrics suck that much tbh, but alas. I dig all three singles for the moment so good sign.
Also bear in Mind Gildenlow at this stage is like a fucking man of the woods, playing the hot dad that discovered fucking calisthenics late in his life. He is a fucking panther lol, he pounces on his fucking trampoline and chills in the wilderness of Eskiltsuna, which is like kilometers away from Stockholm.
oh, also the disc leaked. "Icon", the closing song, is 13.50 minutes. . . I don't know what to expect lol

A great closer... Album's overall pretty great even with a shitty quality leak. Easy 4 on first listen for me

with Icon, it was the first time I felt like PoS were trying hard for emotional response. In my books, it doesn't compare to In the Passing Light of Day at all.

this paints a vivid picture, and it's so true. But while I get it and I'm proud of my big boi Daniel for what he's done after surviving the horrible illness, I can't stand the cheesy ''better-than-thou'' attitude. Baroness had it worse and they are still humble af.

The new album is specifically about people who are neurodivergent not fitting in with society.
It was inspired by his son having autism, Daniel recently being diagnosed with ADHD, and from his time teaching and working with neurodivergent students (I think he teaches elementary school or whatever the Swedish equivalent is).

Very interesting and makes sense with Accelerator tbh. Like the line about not suffocating every flame, because you're afraid to get burned

That's cool that's it's actually about neuro-diversity. I read a review where someone speculated that it was. But cool to have it confirmed. I think that's a much more interesting lens on the lyrics. Also makes me feel like somewhat of an ass for dismissing Daniel's sense of ill-belonging as lingering teenage angst.

"with Icon, it was the first time I felt like PoS were trying hard for emotional response." honestly feel like that's been pretty much what they've always done, just with varying degrees of finesse.

Yeah for me the biggest barrier to enjoying modern PoS is the sense of arrogance that I feel in the music. Obviously that could be a total misread. But it's how it comes across to me. Like they are so pleased with how raw, or brave, or daring they are being. Rubs me up the wrong way.

PoS are one of this bands that change and innovate their sound and still have to release a good album, only superb ones.
