These guys haven't really clicked with me yet but I have a feeling they will.

I get that

What's the beef with these guys anyway, generally considered not metal enough or what? The style is non-traditional but it's not Liturgy either.

I didn't know there was a beef.

A lot of people don't like them and are quite outspoken about it from my experience.

"Some real missed opportunities for the haters to say Prolapsarian"
i think you overestimate how many people give a shit

"There's also a sect of people who, along with Liturgy, see Krallice as a "poseur" movement within metal. Like, they are this group of Brooklyn hipsters using the black metal "kvlture" to ride a fad. I guess they're just turned off by the idea of some people paying lips service to something--a genre, culture, or ideal--without knowledge of what it is they are really doing."
oh man the irony is so thick it's suffocating
|
| |
Thanks. I had a feeling that was what the issue was. The homogeneity criticism I can see from what I've jammed so far. As far as the riding the trend goes, I'll chalk that up to most metalheads being change averse...

Wouldn't put Krallice in that camp, Marston and co. all know their stuff and are super cool and dedicated people to underground metal/music in general.
|
| |
That's what it looks like from what I've read but I'm guessing it has to do with not generally embracing the aesthetic of black metal? Who knows, maybe it just became cool to hate them and it gained momentum for a while.

not embracing aesthetic, his vocals are decidedly not real bm vox so much as just kinda wimpy yells, and they noodle way more than even deathspell so I get why people think they're poseur nerds/hipsters. If it calls itself black metal but isn't dark in the slightest, people get cranky about it.
|
| |
I mean I totally get why black metal fans would dislike this, I don't really care about genre, I just like music that I like. But Marston and co. aren't just "riding a fad".
|
| |
haven't they been playing this style long before the ambient, shoegaze-y thingy like deafheaven became popular? or what other fad are they riding?
|
| |
They're not really riding a fad, they're into doing weird shit, some of it more serious than others. But you can tell that a lot of their projects are just for the heck of it. Krallice is one of their more "serious" projects. But even outside of his own music, Marston and his studio have been quietly producing some really great underground music the past few years.

marston is a hero

Glad to see people inferred retardedly
I wasn't really talking to you but just addressing the issues you brought up with why people like them since it kinda became the discussion at hand.

"haven't they been playing this style long before the ambient, shoegaze-y thingy like deafheaven became popular? or what other fad are they riding?"
