I haven't listened to this more than once, but it's decent from what I heard. Nothing to get ecstatic about from me. Kind of follows a similar route of what their last few albums sound like. If you like Helmet in the 2000's you'll probably like this.

I actually thought this was their best since Aftertaste. Page's melodic vocals have gotten better and more refined this time around as well

Yeah? Well, shit.. I'll have to give this another go. I want to like this a lot I really do.

Guru and Red Scare were pretty good at first listen but the rest didn't click with me so far. I guess it's more interesting as a whole than Seeing Eye Dog though.

I will agree that Page's voice sound a bit better on the melodic parts. I think that's my biggest issue with Monochrome to Eye Seeing Dog is his voice sounds off.
|
| |
I never understood the issues some people seem to have with his voice tbh. I always enjoyed the vocals and found them totally fitting. He always puts them to perfect use in the context of each album.

Well, they fit with the music and he makes it work, but his voice doesn't sound as good as it used to be. When I say it sounds off I don't mean as its bad and doesn't work with the music. Because it totally does. I guess I'm just not used to hearing him sound that way. His voice used to sound much better to me. In hindsight I think he's doing the best he can vocally and conceptually it works with the music. It's nothing personal against him. I'm just nitpicking 2000's helmet is somewhat foreign to me. Forgiven me bro lol

My main problem with the vocals on the releases prior to this one is that Page's voice becomes annoying WAY too often. Look at a song like "Goodbye" off of Monochrome. It's completely ruined by his repetitions of "Goodbye, so long." The song just sounds stupid and aggravating more than anything else. Here, I think his performance is a bit better, but the songs also usually contain multiple hooks, so the voice is never allowed to become too grating. In short, it really handles his aging voice better than I ever expected a Helmet album to. In the end, Helmet isn't a band I expect to make any huge splashes these days; this is more just an enjoyable album and I'm excited it gives them a reason to keep touring. They're a pretty fun live band.

its crazy how cheap the tickets are for a helmet/local h tour

yeah it was pretty cheap. Local H was alright, kinda boring towards the end but they had some good riffs in there. Helmet killed it. Wished they played more off this tbh though. I talked to Paige afterwards and he told me they are working in I Love My Guru and Green Shirt into the set, which are the two i wanted to here lol But still a great show. Maybe not as good as the Betty tour show was, but still I had a blast. Paige is such a great guy, both times i was able to talk with him afterwards and get a picture with him.

Easily the best 2000's Helmet, still wondering what the fuck happened to Page's voice though.
