"Let's be real, Underclass Hero is American Idiot lite, and I have no issues with that."

wat.

"yeah but it's not like pop punk bands weren't ripping each other off already"

the album is not all that pop punk, and its less "oh this melody is familiar" and more like: this song sounds like this song from yellowcard or blue october that charted in the year 2006. Theres a difference between being unoriginal sounding in a genre and actually stealing enough from a song to make it distinct and obvious.

so how come they got away with their first three albums? them copying and pasting other artists' sounds didn't just start at underclass hero. there's a video that shows all of the times (and then some) of sum 41 ripping off artists and at least half of them come before UH

I never said they hadnt ripped off bands in the past, what im saying is that it wasn't as blatant as on Underclass Hero. You could say chalk up something like Sum 41 having a similar vocal melody to a Nickleback song being the fact both follow basic chord progression.

On Underclass Hero, on the other hand, you listen to Best of Me and its Hate Me. You listen to March of the Dogs and its House of Wolves. You listen to With Me and its Only One. Then you have Close the Curtain where the outro is We're All To Blame from Chuck. Stuff highlighted in that video are just moments that sound similar due to a genre which borrows similar chord progressions. Underclass Hero goes beyond just having incidental moments of sounding similar to other big name songs and actively rips off every single aspect of the songs they're borrowing from.

i honestly don't hear a copy of hate me in best of me, same with house of wolves in march of the dogs. i do agree with with me and only one.

that said, i'm not saying the album is good but it's not lifeless like this

Solid review. It was pretty strange green day, sum 41, and NOFX releasing a new album on the same day, took me back to my high school days.

This isn't bad, definitely better than their 2 previous albums, and thank god that terrible dialogue was only in the music video. Better than the new Green Day at least

Deep Purple stole Black Night's main riff to a band that was rehearsing in a room next to theirs.
