I wonder if they really were the ones to start that wacky guitar technique... or if some obscure bands inspired it, and they ran with it.

Didn't feel this one as much as i wanted after many tries, can't pretend i loved it, it's and OK album for their standard, if only it had more killer tracks like Clockworks, Nostrum and Into Decay it would be another history, Our Rage Won't Die starts so fucking strong only to fall flat near the end and MonstroCity sucks big time, easily their worst song to date, this is the only album i've 3'd from them, they are humans after all, huge desire for the next one to be their best yet.
Top so far:
1. obZen
2. Catch 33
3. Nothing
4. Koloss
5. I
6. Chaosphere
7. Destroy Erase Improve
8. The Violent Sleep Of Reason
9. Contradictions Collapse

they have released more conceptually or experimentally interesting albums but this is probably the greatest example of the meshuggah craft/sound set to record so far

Album is ok but it needed more oomph for me, MonstroCity on this record feels so off, that song bores me to tears.

punk rock MBA said this shit sounds like less aggressive emmure and I have never agreed more with a hot take in my entire life

''and MonstroCity sucks big time, easily their worst song to date''
This could be the overstatement of the year on Sput. Firstly, the debut exists.

Ah yeah.
This is what one minute of googling got me:
''Tomas Haake says that fans shouldn't expect to see a new MESHUGGAH studio album from before "2020 at the earliest."
The experimental Swedish metal group's last disc, "The Violent Sleep Of Reason", came out in 2016 and resulted in a "Best Metal Performance" Grammy nomination for the song "Clockworks".
Asked by Hayley Leggs at last weekend's Hellfest in Clisson, France what MESHUGGAH's plans are for the coming months, Haake said (see video below): "We'll do a few more shows now in the summer, and then we'll do probably South America in the fall. And apart from that, we don't really know at this point. We're probably gonna do kind of a similar run next year for festivals ā try to hit whatever festivals we couldn't make match up this time; see if we can make another three- or four-week run next year. But we have to start writing at some point, so this fall or in the wintertime, we'll probably start writing for the next album. But the next album will not be out until 2020 at the earliest."''
