completely agree with you that the album feels like two disparate halves. it almost sounds like they were recorded at different times

Never heard of "crust" or "blackgaze". Seems like I've lost track of the countless genres haha. Loved the first two tracks when they were released a few weeks back. Checking this out now. Nice write-up!

100% not crust. Love Oathbreaker but a shame other members of the bands names are never mentioned other than Caro. Guess that always happens with female vox in metal. Its no coincidence the members are in other awesome bands (Amenra/Weigedood etc) The off kilter clean vox start off superb but they can kinda get annoying at times.

I like the new album a lot, but I feel they could have saved the d/beat for a couple of songs instead of abandoning it completely. If the second part of the album was like the first half it would be a strong 4.5. The singles ( immortals, second son and needles) rip so much

didn't really say this particular album was crust but some of their prior work gives me that vibe so I used it as a descriptor but maybe I'll change
and I meant to name some other members but the way I had it felt like it was "forced" like I was just ticking off the box but I'll see if I can adjust that. i think the "Guess that always happens with female vox in metal" line is unfair though tbh - i just see the vocalist as a more identifiable source description-wise (i never really like to talk about "riffs" and stuff). her being female didn't really affect that
will come back to this later and see if i can strip down the wordplay a bit as well
