Yeah I should stop listening to it. For me, knowing two songs really well among unknown songs makes for an unbalanced album experience. Unless it's like Michael Jackson or something poppy.

They should release singles a week or two beforehand

Between the singles and my newfound discovery of Pale Communion this year I'm basically hyped for "two" new Opeth albums. Speaking of which it baffles me how long I managed to ignore some songs in PC that now magically feel so obviously great.

Yeah, PC is fantastic. I actually put it above Damnation. It deserves more love.

I also like it a bit more than Damnation. If anything it's more adventurous.

3.7 and 3.5 from Nocte and Talons for the new album, has me very worried as both users are very pro-Opeth.

That's an ominous sign indeed. I guess we'll know in a week and a half!

But Nocte also says ''Having listened to the promo for this I can say that In Cauda Venenum is pleasantly straight-forward with themes that bring back fond Damnation-type feels. In all fairness, this should have been the album Heritage could have been.''
This sounds like he wants something else from post-Watershed Opeth, because Heritage is everything I could ever want and more.

Straight-forward Opeth? Oh no :[

But Nocte also says
You called? Thought I could feel my ears twitching. To clarify, I really like Heritage but this new album would've served better released in its place giving a more straight-forward transition between old Opeth and new Opeth. I still want my Heritage listens but the point I'm making is more than moot simply because it didn't happen.
3.7 and 3.5 from Nocte and Talons
put me down for a 3.7 also.

Interesting. I love Damnation way more than the last 3 (and more than a couple of others too), so hopefully this is good news.

If it is of any comfort the new album is a total no doubts 5. I don't know what those people have listened to. Some early studio demo or a bootleg or something.
Yeah, it's probably Opeth's best since Still Life.

"Straight-forward Opeth? Oh no :["
Reading a few track by track previews the writing seems to be all but linear, so I wouldn't worry about that.

To address my rating for the new one, it's higher than PC or Sorceress for me. If I'm understanding Nocte's comments correctly, I agree that it's like the missing link between GR and WS and their new sound. It's more straightforward than Heritage, but still plenty eclectic an adventurous in its own way.

If I'm understanding Nocte's comments correctly...
You've basically summed it up, I was only dreaming up dream Opeth release orders. i.e. which order of albums I think would be best. A girl can dream.

Enjoyed both, especially Dignity.

Yeah they were alright! Super happy that the production doesn't seem to be completely fucked up like here. That is one of the main offences of Sorceress.
