Baffling that this album doesnt blow the mind of the average listener on first listen

I will concede that Augment and Impulse are on a completely different level (and a higher level than anything else in metalcore period), but this album is still damn good

Band is mid in the metalcore scene. Impulse is their only standout.

Why is the average so much lower on this one than impulse and augment? Feel like it's easily better than those two on first listen

I thought this one was better on first listen too back in the day. Impulse and Augment are growers for some people.

I dont think its "easily better" but it's definitely on a similar level to the first two albums. The average is so low on this just because of butthurt fans, those who dont except change. They switched a couple members around and all of a sudden the fans hated them for it, it's so dumb.

“ Impulse and Augment are growers for some people”
Impulse and Augment literally got better with every time i listened to them until my 10th stream or something. Drift just kinda stayed the same. Still a great album, though.

I feel like I've been too harsh on this album. It's probably a 3.5-3.7, with only the production bringing it down–mostly because their s/t blows this out of the (jellyfish infested) water.

self titled is significantly better than this ya but i still like this a good bit. couple of really strong songs that i come back to a lot like hypnotist, sleeper, hourglass, and continuum. does have a lot of flaws like jesse's melodies dont always stick the landing (see: orchid's chorus, pretty much all of drift's title track which is weak as fuck), jt is at his most monotonous, the prod as you said is not great altho still better than neon's, but for all of it's faults jesse still has a lot of really good melodies and solos so even a handful of the songs that dont fully work at least have a lot of great ideas that make em not skippable, and i find this generally more consistent than neon
lot of it tho is that i realllly like the hypnotist lol the clean outro of that song is legit so beautiful to me despite its general simplicity

very far from their best since their discog opens w two untouchable legendary albums and self titled is another huge personal classic but like w/e at least they arent currently putting out stuff of this caliber

The first 5 Erra projects (ep, Andromeda, Impulse, Augment, MOC ep) were all excellent. Everything else...nope.
