Oh fuck man, I recently jumped back into playing. Been a while.
Currently working on dexterity and finger speed for fretting/picking. Let me know of any good exercises if you have any.

Instead of generic and boring exercises, I use riffs and licks I like to practise that stuff. Like if I want a nice solid sweep picking routine that covers the sweep basics, I use the end of Sequoia Throne by PtH. It's a fast run, so I'll play it on guitar pro at just a fraction of the original speed and slowly work my way up.
For lead alt picking, I like using the intro to Daydream by Vinnie Moore and just play those first few bars over and over again until I can hit the 158 bpm or whatever it is. For riff based alt picking, I like using the intro to C'est La Vie by PtH (the first dozen bars or so)

I'll be damned if Insomnium isn't one of those overrated, overly jerked-off bands but goddammit, Winter's Gate is probably the most beautiful and most rewarding MDM album I've ever heard, the rating is well justified
