Yea but sput didn’t wake up to Norma Jean being good until Wrongdoers came out. I think all the averages on their earlier stuff would be higher if they were reset.

Seeing them play Redeemer in full tomorrow

I mean it all comes down to personal tastes. Their older records were a bit heavier and more chug- happy whereaw now they've taken a catchier, more accessible post- hardcore approach that (imo) still has fantastic energy.

I’d argue that the only chug-heavy album was Bless the Child but even then it took a lot of influence from 90s metalcore and post-hardcore, and O’ God is the obvious Botch love letter. Pretty much everything after that embraced using a lot more melody and played around with different sounds.

Even the general vibe around the band from the community has changed, looking at comments from earlier comments on their past work shows a lot more jaded and closed-minded opinions whereas most current users seem to look on the band as a whole more fondly

Darius it’s hard to say where to start because the band has changed so much, kind of like Underoath with no og members left

You might as well listen to this because it’s great but just be aware that it sounds nothing like their first albums. In fact their first three albums all sound like completely different bands tbh

I would say start with Wrongdoers/Polar Similar/Redeemer. If you like those and want to keep the melody, go for Meridional. If you want something heavier, go for O'God and Bless the Child.

I think Bless the Martyr is objectively their best but the averages for this band's albums are all kinds of wonky.

I've only heard this and Wrongdoers but both rip hard. Gotta get on the others soon.

Jump on meridional, man. It will take you like 10 seconds to be on board.

I like this band overall. My faves are this one and the debut. There's something on bless the martyr I just love. Its not original but I feel it very pure.

Bless the Martyr just never grabbed me, even back then.

I just love those repetitions full of anger. There's a risk to get bored but not in that case imo (as much as in O'God The Aftermath and Redeemer). m/ and is not as much formulaic as their latest discog (with the exception of Polar Similar which is really a step forward in their sound)
