I just listened to Seventh Wave from Ocean Machine for the first time.
That alone is better than this whole album.

That's my second favorite Devy song and I agree.

Here's a random thought with Nick Cave releasing a new album. Do you think an album with Nick and Devy could work? Similar to Casualties possibly. They're my 2 favourite artists and I think it might be awesome, not that it would ever happen.

I think that combination would be really successful if Cave stuck to the sound he's using now, but I think that's more of an exception than a rule. I could see Cave's bombastic lyrics, paired with Townsend's busy arrangements, striking as more overwhelming than complementary. - S

SYL instrumentals while Cave does spoken word over the top of it. Lulu: Part 2
But it would be 5/5

Holy fuck, of course Seventh Wave/Ocean Machine is better than this. Its the best fucking album hes ever made (tied with City), and a prog metal classic.
And calling From the Heart good, but the rest of the album 'lol' isn't even an opinion, its lunacy.

tbf the only track i don't like from start to finish here (if you exclude the 4 minutes of ambient at the end of the ween cover) is higher, and a good portion of that track is still good
i really don't get why people seem to be lukewarm on this release, it rules

Higher is one of my favorites. I get that the chanting can be monotonous, but god damn the last half of the song is gold.

Don't let the staff review give you a negative mindset going in, Sputnik is pretty much the only place I have seen having such a piss fest about this album.

Definitely a grower, to a degree.
High points: "Failure," "Higher" (funnily enough), "Stormbending;" glad to see song-to-song transitions returning.
Low: "Truth" didn't need a re-record; "Secret Sciences" = yawn; "Stars" = listenable, but corny without the irony that provides songs like "Stagnant" and "Slow Me Down" such spark
Still fully digesting the last four tracks

did you really assume i meant that literally rowan
i saw mr townsend back in 2010 in London, Ontario and he stuck around and shook hands and signed stuff and talked immediately after the show while kneeling on the stage. it was a small concert hall with about 40 people sticking around after. dude had been touring longer than i had been alive. great guy
