If I pull an ALA on this...
Y'all should take a break from this and listen to the new Wilco instead tbh.

Honestly, I can't stop listening to this. I tell myself to stop to give the ol' emotions a break, but everytime the title track wraps there's an immediate compulsion to restart the album. I've literally never experienced it this intense before in my life

I actually kinda agree that that fade-out to the t/t is a little cheap but then again it fits in with the whole too exhausted to try properly vibe. a nitpick anyway

OvDeath I'm a complete newcomer to this band so I really can't compare it to what they've done before and I really didn't know any context, thanks for informing me a bit there.
Again as I said before I'm just listing my thoughts after one cursory listen, everything I've said comes with a huge qualifier. I probably should have just kept my mouth shut but here we are.

'he's not bothering with his usual metaphors and overblown stories. he's just spewing this emotional shit that he's thinking. this is literally the least melodramatic Cave has ever been, this is his straight-up venting, not even trying drama. he didn't have the energy to do his usual bombastic style. he didn't have the energy to write epic stories. the art is just telling you what it is: raw recordings from the cheap recording sessions he paid for to get this music out of the way, out of his system.'
Doesn't sound like a 5 rating lol, but I get what you mean.

I mean, pretty much all the tracks fade out fast. The only reason it stands out on the t/t is because there isn't any more Skeleton Tree left to keep being perfect.

I really do love that this is putting new eyes on Cave.

I don't know, Ov.
On one hand it sounds like Cave just phoned this in to get it over with, per your description. On the other, it sounds like they didn't have to try; that they could have done this with any old leftovers because what was said needed to be said and any canvas they could muster would do- which is impressive in itself.

I just have an irrational hatred of fade-outs in literally every situation, this has some of the better ones I've heard but they still get my blood boilin

Me too. Not a fan. I'd prefer an abrupt stop with one last note from the piano than a fade out.

fuck me that song really hits hard after all the other ones
where on the other songs, it sounds as if Cave is holding back, and with the title track, just lets it all out

doesn't sound like he's holding back to me, personally I think he's already let all the big stuff out and this album is just the tired, numb aftershock of that
