I usually agree with the average rating for most albums on this site, or I'm at least close to the rating.... However, I disagree with this completely. It does not deserve a 2.8 average. It's not ground breaking or very different from what they have offered on the last two albums but it's a solid 3.5 for me.

honestly the pitch correction ahren uses makes it unlistenable for me, overkill

auto tune/pitch correction, either or, it's just totally unnecessary, he sounds great on severed ties and it's more than tolerable on youngbloods but everything they've done is just intolerable because of it. ]

and the fact they don't play lead guitar live, like what. the. fuck?

there is a difference. when people say an artist "uses autotune" its used to discredit the singer completely. it's not like ahren can't hit the notes you hear on the album.

regardless though it's much more those layered vocal harmonies that people are hearing that sounds artificial rather than the pitch correction. speaking of which TAA has majorly toned it down on since chasing ghosts anyways.

as for not playing guitar live agreed it's kind of a weak move especially considering the fact that amitys leads are not particularly difficult but imo it's just the artists preference.

clearly they value sounding good over showing how technically proficient they are.

i just don't see the big deal personally especially with a metalcore band in which guitars aren't even a major part of the music.

now the day megadeth or some shit plays lead on a backing track i'll have an issue

i don't man i kinda liked the riff on death's hand and the solo on ibtwm and i'd be bummed if it was just a backing track

you wouldn't be able to tell the difference until after the fact anyways

It's not quite as bad as a lip syncing pop star because they're not pretending they're actually playing it, but it still sucks that they don't actually play the lead live, which is what you go to a live show for, not for a backing track.

I don't doubt ahren's ability, but the effects he uses on his voice are still a massive turnoff for me, if he's capable, he shouldn't be relying on it so much.

agreed, not as bad as lip syncing but if i'm paying money to see a bad of TAAs stature, i'd bloody hope they put on a good show and not half ass it and play a backing track for leads.

Plus the whole point of live is it's not meant to be perfect, there can be room for a few mistakes here or there.

Also this "you wouldn't be able to tell the difference until after the fact anyways"

regardless of their demographic and whether they'll notice or not, it's still pretty inexcusable for a band that's been playing together for over 10 years.
