Brand New were amazing when I saw them a couple years ago with Modest Mouse.

GB I'm incredibly jealous. Haven't been to a show in years, let alone a Brand New show.

For FOYD in general I'd say: Nobody Moves > Missing You > Good Man > 1996 > Brothers > the rest

I remember how Boards of Canada's comeback did very well commercially. They had a very solid fan base built by publications that championed their work, despite doing little themselves. Wonder if the same thing will happen to Brand New

I do feel like no one really worships brand new and especially deja/tdag as much as /mu/ and here though

I don't get the appeal for this band. Dunno what it is, but I tried to listen to TDAGARIM and some of the lyrics felt very cringy and melodramatic to me. "Now they don't talk and we don't go out" It's straightforward and I'm not into that. Sowing is a good song though.

I find their lyrics very direct and honest compared to all the cliché shit I hear everywhere else

i swear people who say that criticism are copying other people that said it and have made themselves be bothered by it. it's not even prevalent

Or maybe the fact that I listened to most of the album and It really bothered me. I haven't heard anything about brand new outside of sputnik and the stuff I read here is 98% positive so I don't kbow how I can be copying criticism. If there's something wrong with something of course a big group of people are gonna point it out.

I honestly get how people could dislike Brand New. I can see how they could be perceived as whiny and melodramatic.

1996 is like my favorite BN song ever so Sowing I'm gonna have to object to that

Brand New is a band I never really liked much besides TDAG and a select few cuts from other releases. Overtime though I've come to where i don't even enjoy those.

I can't stand the majority of their lyrics and while they are talented instrumentally I've never cared for their huge sounding production and never thought they did anything that special to warrant all the high praise.

That said they aren't bad by any means and I can still see why people connect with them and why they are so popular, i just personally can't vibe with it.
