There's actually 9 songs on the new album including "Verruckt", or 10 (if you count Test, Test... Enough) which is fine by me since it's still ~45 min of music.

p. much every "proper" song on the new album is awesome. i could see tracks like "Peach", "Mars Simula" and "So Long, Mother Earth" ending up as some of my favorite songs by the band currently.

Agreed, even though I'd switch "Peach" with "Ghost And Razor" but all songs go hard, really.

I was including 'Test Test...Enough' in one of the 5 instrumental / interludes but don't think that's fair. It's actually pretty damn cool.

"Test Test... Enough" is pretty cool and I wish it was longer. "Verruckt" is actually a pretty solid opener and I definitely consider it a proper song. The other three (specially "VVurmhole", ugh...) are kinda just there. "Lost in Digital Woods" was nice the first time around, very eerie and all but not interesting enough for repeated listens.
I'm feeling a solid 4 for Niratias and (pretty unpopular opinion) TNC is still my favorite of the latter Chevelle albums.

i like lost in digital woods not as much as test test enough or verruckt but its a cool closer and honestly the three songs before feel like a solid enough closing stretch to anchor it that i dont mind it going for a sort of experimental closer like that
albums really growing on me the more i listen but im not really feeling mars simula. no melodies that hook me and thats my big draw to these guys. not particularly compelled by them as a heavy band which is what that one is going for

"and honestly the three songs before feel like a solid enough closing stretch to anchor it that i dont mind it going for a sort of experimental closer like that"
That's a great point, actually.
Understandable. I think I prefer heavy Chevelle just a bit, which is why HOTTB is my least favorite from them and TNC one of my favorites. I love "Mars Simula", though. It reminds me of "An Island" which was a top track for me from La Gargola.

is the new album actually good? would i like it if i thought all the singles they put out were boring as shit?

It's good. I think they could've stripped the interludes off the album, otherwise as everyone else has been saying the actual songs are dynamic, experimental to a degree, and certainly memorable. It's evident the band wasn't trying to pen another radio hit.

So how is it

haven't listened to anything of theirs since Sci-Fi Crimes... but this does have goat on the cover...

been a while since i listened to an opener as uninspired as verruckt

new album might actually be their best to date

chevelle is like the definitive "okay" band: i never feel compelled to talk shit on them when people say they love them, but i don't find any of their stuff very compelling. they are a consistently 2.5-3/5 band across their entire discography

It’s been almost 5 years and since the release of this album I can’t name one song I like.
Pete mentioned having songs he was not proud of, he was definitely talking about this record. The artwork is a perfect representation of how I feel about this album: “blah”

I joined cause I somehow through search landed here on Chevelle and was curious enough to read this comment section and so Im here. Great band and is still putting out the sounds that the fans are liking. How many others saw something else shiny and lost their way. I always know when they release to listen to the shit out of it cause they have a way of getting riffs and such to lodge under the skin and they will make ya crank up some. And than some more... its a gift.
