"Irvin Kershner was George's film College professor"

Oh wow I never knew that.

And yeah, I agree with everything you're saying. There is a strange power trip happening over these movies. Not sure why Kennedy is so overarching over the vision. Maybe she is channeling George in a way. Maybe that's why he appointed her.

Either way, it's not the same without George somewhat involved. Apparently when he wrote up the contract with Disney, there was some gibberish saying George would consult and help with the sequel trilogy... But Disney didn't like any of his ideas, told him to leave and carried on with what we now have as episode 7,8,9

Honestly Kennedy was far less controlling than George was. Like, George's control over Episode 6 was so bad that there is still a controversy to this day whether Richard Marquand actually qualifies as the films director or not. Even the Directors Guild of America got involved. Kennedy was strict, but not to the level George was at all. IMHO I feel she needed to be far tougher, especially on Rian and Gareth. She should be there during filming like George was, not sitting on the sidelines pushing papers and dictating from an ivory tower.

I remember when Disney acquired the series and started work on Episode 7, everybody thought they were going to "save" the franchise from evil George Lucas. I remember that dumb South Park episode about how Spielberg and Lucas raped our childhood with the later movies for Indy and Star Wars and there were people who actually felt this way.

Over the course of decades we fans kept telling ourselves that Star Wars was our franchise and it wasn't until Disney started their own version that we realized it was never ours, it was George's, we were just along for the ride.

maybe George giving the franchise to Disney was his way of saying "you hate my prequels? fine then, fuck you guys. you'll see how bad it could've been"

The movies are overrated. The books have the best of Star Wars. Mara Jade Skywalker, Tahiri Veila, Gilad Pellaeon, Jacen Solo, Jagged Fel, Luke Skywalker, Nom Anor, Vergere, Darth Caedus

Jacen Solo or Darth Caedus either way would definitely wreck Ben Solo. Ben Skywalker would also wreck Ben Solo.

For all the talk about Rey being a Mary Sue she would not stand a chance against Jaina Solo, the Sword of the Jedi.

Rey definitely has potential as a swordswoman and her powers are above average for a Jedi. Her intelligence and repair abilities are up there. Really she has the best traits of all three Solo children.

And to continue on with that, Rey has Jacen’s animal empathy and animal communication, Jainas multifaceted combat abilities, Anakins abilties with machines and droids. She literally is all three Solo siblings from the books.

Well said Calligy.

I'm not trying to read a comic or novel to get the backstory. I want that front and center in the frame, in the movie

Unfortunately Marquand died at the age of 49. Very young

You're right, but as an average STAR WARS fan I only watch the movies and play the video games. I don't really read the comics or "novels"

i'm sure we all could have written a better episode 7

hard to do worse than a lazy retread (but somehow star wars manages it)

It just blows my mind that a company the size of Disney, with all their money... Couldn't get a group of writers together and plot out the ENTIRE SEQUEL TRILOGY.

They dropped the ball on this one. I think we can all agree.

"This one" meaning the sequel trilogy.
