the singles off the new one are mostly pretty great tbh so im kind of excited
shame this is taking so fucking long to download

for an album that was announced as being like a smorgasbord of different styles, these first four songs are all just straight alt-tinged pop punk
not bad so far i think?

it’s definfiely better than this not fully sold on all these songs yet but they all have aspects I like

dont know what to think of it after one playthru but lotta hooks that stood out to me

matt nails most of his vocal parts esp on the chorus of no heart to speak of
|
| |
wow i actually gotta agree with bubs: blame it on my youth is a damn good pop number! i remember vehemently disliking the hook when it was first released; dunno what changed but im enjoying it now. matt's voice sounds good on it.

Three songs in and the new one is already exponentially better than this. Heaven actually sounds like an Alk3 song

Nine actually ended up surprising me after all. This is definitely better than I expected

my main problem with recent blink (Neighborhoods onward, but especially the most recent stuff) is how wildly over-produced it all is, most notably the vocals. but the whole thing is just so neutered, they had a good balance of solid production & actual personality in their music from Enema to s/t, but after that they just crossed the line whole-hog into full-on over-processing, sounding more like the artists they would parody than anything remotely close to "punk"
oh well, good luck topping Taylor Swift on the iTunes charts or whatever the endgame is here, boys

I do agree with you on that. With Enema level production new Blink would be 10x better

This is good to hear. I’ll just wait until my copy comes in next week to listen though.
I was hoping they’d incorporate some of the sounds/tones of the Cali deluxe edition disc. Any luck there?

I'd say this is more similar to the Deluxe than to California

Neutered is also the word that kept popping in my head while listening to Nine.

Critic reviews have been pretty good for Nine so far. Hmm...
|
| |
really? just seems about as good as california and nothin special. at least it's not terrible

Nine is garbage. Anything that remotely hints at being awesome is destroyed by ridiculous electronics that don’t fit the band.
Heaven, Darkside and Generational Divide are the only songs that did anything for me, and any decent Guitar work was buried so far in the mix you can’t hear it.

maybe it’s because objective quality is thrown out the window when matt uses his upper vocal register but I fucking love nine

Well, shit. I haven’t listened yet, waiting on my pre order on Friday. Just read a few reviews.
Fuck. About what I expected tho tbh.

| |
my main takeaway from the songs i actually have heard from Nine was that Travis could still slay the fuckin' drum set
|
| |
Not one good song on the poppy mess of an album.
