When most people get bad reviews about albums I love I get peeved but you made valid points, not that I agree with most of them,
As for "While some people tend to think Maynard is one of the best lyricists of our day and age, I think his lack of various material in Tool (At least on this album) makes him sub par at best. "
For me most of Lateralus is based around human relationships, communimations and the break down of them,
Its not like a concept album where things follow a logical path,
For instance Parabol/ Parabola speaks of unity and belonging and is followed by Ticks and Leeches which is pure bile.
Good review...

Nice review, but I think you gave this a low score simply because it was one of those hyped albums. You kind of contridict what you say in your opening first paragraph about people looking to have their own unique music taste. Still, well written but I disagree.

While I completely disagree, it was a nice review...
A part I disagree with is when you criticized Maynard's lyrics for being mostly written out of anger. If this is true, I can't hear it all. This isn't a Nu Metal band writing about how they hate the world. This is almost like...philosophy...to an extent.
A nice counterpoint, but to me, this just seems like another review that bashes a good album simply for the fact that it's heralded as one of the best.

At least Maynard is taking a mature approach to writing angry lyrics. For that matter, you could say alot of metal bands write their lyrics out of anger too.

^I agree with the_wiz on that.

His lyrics are pretty awesome in my opinion. I've been listening to this quite a lot recently - awesome bedtime music.

Lyrics are great in this album. It, along with tribal like beats, makes Tool, Tool.
Unfortunately, I really don't like it. I want to, but I just don't.

I cannot disagree with you more. I respect your opinion, but the entire concept of the album is based off of the fibonacci sequence. By throwing it off as a gimmick you lose the power of the music and the meaning of the message. Check out this video and hopefully you'll recognize that...if not necessarily appreciate...that Tool is one of the few bands who throws in sequences because they sound cool, there is always depth.

This review as well as the other reviews makes me want to listen to this album and see for myself. I think that's the beauty of these reviews, they either make you want to listen to something or make sure you never listen to it ever.

This is a good review only because you defend your opinion really well. Other then that i can't stand this review. You seem to compare a lot of the songs to 'Schism' which gets old.

Go Tool
Not their best album though.
Pretty good review.

giving this album anything less than at LEAST a 4 is a crime. Just my opinion. its absolutely beautiful.
the songs on this album inspired me and turned me from a depressive, whiny bastard to a take-life-as-it-comes-and-develop attitude.

The review was extremely well written, and your opinion has logic and substance. However, this album is a very amazing album.
