Excellent work of art per usual. Swans needs a well-made documentary of their career now.

@Gyro nah this is more like To Be Kind without any of the hooks like Oxygen or A Little God in My Hands. Ergo, will probably earn two listens at the most

but the hooks on Finally, Peace and Frankie M are some of their best ever imo

Yeah but what I meant is that there aren't really any easily digestible songs like those one here. Finally, Peace is the last song on the album so you have to sit through the rest of it to get there. Frankie M is miles ahead the best song on this.

Zak you say you don't have a taste for something this serious, grim, indulgent, and patience-testing, and yet I'm pretty sure you've said that Dark Souls is your favourite video game

like what

I really don't see how. It is a bacchanalian celebration / deconstruction of rock music. The musicianship is stellar, the songs themselves are inspired, and Gira's lyrics have always managed to both expressive and personal. You don't often get art this ambitious while also having a beating heart.

The only criticisms I could give Swans would be them being indulgent and self-serious... but again, if they weren't, they wouldn't evoke something of such biblical enormity. And that really is the main point of their music

The first three tracks on this are amazing, the rest is various levels of flawed

I was honestly expecting this thing to be more of the same but I actually like this even more than The Seer and To Be Kind combined.
