you also have to consider that shinedown is not aiming to be a technically complex band who write epic and difficult tunes. they are a post-grunge radio rock band you have to consider them on their own merits

Brent is way too good for these guys and pretty much outshines them on every level ofc but the combination of superb vocals and mostly average instrumentation still = a pretty good album for me

because honestly if one were to view music in such a narrow-minded perspective (if it's not complex or unpredictable, it sucks) that would make a lot of good music shitty to someone with the wrong opinion

You don't have to be complex or unpredictable to be unique. Aside from the vocals, they're not unique
in any way. If anything, they are copycats (bands like Nickelback, Pap Roach, Godsmack, etc. write in
the same way as these guys, and these guys write the same way as they do). It's not narrow-minded;
it's common sense.

Maybe instead of defending a run-of-the-mill band, just accept the fact they are a guilty pleasure. THEY aren't terrible, and their music CAN be enjoyable to some measure, but they aren't unique or interesting.

That's your opinion bro and nobody is really "defending" them, we just happen to have opposing views.

And they undoubtedly play like everyone else. That's a fact, not opinion.

That scream at the beginning is pretty much all you need to prove that Brent is the best radio rock vocalist of the past fifteen years.
