Thanks Shark!
Very good point regarding the production. The man just seems to do everything on his own and that's the result.
|
| |
Once again excellent write-up manos. I don't think you've ever written such a negative review tbh; I'll check out some of his earlier work and skip this.

Yeah this is the lowest score I've ever seen manos give for a review.
I don't think I could even finish a review for an album like this

haha thanks des!
Indeed this is the lowest score in all of my reviews. Partly because I choose to write positive reviews since even on the worst album there is an artist who has labored for the best possible outcome. And partly because bad albums don't "speak" to me. This is probably an exception.

"Worst guitarist ever"
lol
most inconsistent/overrated guitarist/musician ever is something I would agree with, but worst ever ?

This dude is honestly so fucking annoying, great write-up dude.

"As a result, it almost feels that the Swedish axeman is playing with the company of a backing CD"
hahahahaha, burst into tears, killer review man

Wow ahah, that rating. Checking out the t/t right now and it sounds pretty iffy. Pretty repetitive and agreed about the production. Indeed the rhythm section may as well be robots.

just started listening
what even is this production

that kick drum is horrendous, and the most important part of this album (the wank) is mixed behind the drums and bass

It's fucking Yngwie, there is no band, it's fucking Yngwie and you're stupid for thinking otherwise. Yngwie Malmsteen not Yngwie and the band or the Malmsteen Experience. He shreds self indulgent neo calssical shit. To expect anything else is fucking stupid.

oh look yet another review bashing fast playing yawn
Neoclassical shredding is the shit foad hater.
but really did you listen to this expecting him to suddenly start producing post-punk revival?

Personally, I expected inspired guitar playing, better vocals, a more competent rhythm section, sophisticated production and most of all music that isn't just mindless wank that leaves nothing to the listener. Guys like Jason Becker, Marty Friedman, Guthrie Govan have shown that it's possible.
We're talking about an incredible guitarist who has released excellent material in the past and on this album he underperforms greatly imo. I wasn't expecting a Lightning to the Nations 2.0 riff-wise, just a better version of what he's doing.

Oh Dear, Oh Dear! How the mighty Malmsteen has fallen - up his own @$$h0l3 in this case.
Manosg has completely hit the nail on the head and IMO his 1.5 rating is being generous. My ears were so offended by the endless, boring, repetitive runs on various tracks that I switched off completely and will probably never listen to it again. Wankery indeed. Total wankery..
What on earth is Vai thinking by getting Yngwie involved his Generation Axe project?...

Well shredding isn't about playing with emotion to me. I know it can be done and is done fairly regularly, but sometimes shredding is just about shredding, and that has its own appeal. Not everything has to be emotive and heartfelt, especially not in metal. Sometimes balls-out is just as good. There's no denying the weak production here, but everything else here was pretty par for the course for Yngwie. Dude has already played every note on the guitar, so I think your expectations are a bit high for someone who clearly just wants to shred.
I thought there were a lot of interesting runs here, and of course a lot of familiar ones.
