I wish I enjoyed this but it's really not doing much for me musically and I don't get her vocals

Vocal performance is my biggest gripe, it ranges from really good to bad a lot.

I love how the instrumentation and production is completely perfect, and all her vocals sound like they were all done in one take. It makes for a nice contrast between pop perfectionism and that indie realness that seems hard to grasp for a lot of modern artists.

when are the vocals "bad"? interesting to see the vocals as such a point of discussion tho. i mean, she definitely has a unique voice, but i never imagined them being so divisive. they're adorable, and when they're not that, they're simply beautiful for me.
@theNateman
yes! that was the first thing i noticed! this is def gonna be one of those albums where i always clearly remember the first time i heard it, and i think the production is the biggest reason why

Just revisited this again today, and it's sunny disposition serves as the perfect contrast to the cold cloudy day today

Fool Forever is THAT good.
Oh no...

Album art reminded me of Bjork's "Post" but after some bleach. Ok album for my taste, it sounds tight and fresh though, defying even, and has some good tracks on it, but overall, in the end I was already tired. Lyrics were dope too.

ha yeah the cover resembles Post quite a bit. album is my #3 of the year atm, topped only by Horse Lords and Niechec. it might not be the most meticulous thing ever, but it's meticulous enough, and Thao's performance is simply one in a million

I'll give a listen to the other two you mentioned Brick.

Good decision haha but on this album, you said you were tired by the end? What's tiring about it for you?
|
| |
haha, can't remember why I felt that way, I will give it another listen. I have faith in Thao.

I stand corrected, especially about the production on instruments, it sounds amazing. The album definitely gains on subsequent listens. Thao's singing is something you need some kind of disposition to get into it. On the second listen I was kind of ready for it, so I could focus more on things happening behind her voice and how she ties everything together. Not a classic for me, but indeed a great and cohesive album. Fool Forever is still the best track imo, that groove is crazy good.

I really dislike this but I really like meticulous bird

"I stand corrected..."
ha cool man. yeah there's definitely enough going on here to really make the album a grower. I love Fool Forever, as it shows that in spite of Thao's usually (on this album) more optimistic perspective, even she can get political and sardonic. and yeah the groove is crazy. although if i had to choose, i'd say that song's chorus is probably the weakest on the album. best track for me is Endless Love for its simplicity and its purity, tho i also have very special affinities for Slash/Burn, Nobody Dies, and Millionaire
"I really dislike this"
it's so pure and so fun tho!
