Their last drummer was so underrated. Dude was perfect for them
Looking forward to hearing this

I agree, he was amazing. I really liked his drum work on The Great Cold Distance

Absolutely agree. Great performance an the drum sound on that was fantastic.
Also the review for this on that hack website Metalsucks was horrible.

very interesting discrepancy between the ratings and the soundoffs
good review though

This is monotonous and an overall chore to listen to. Serein is an amazing song and Sanction is also quite good though.

do i have any chances of enjoying this if i think this band peaked with their first 2 albums?

Small chances. Did you enjoy anything from the newer material at all?
|
| |
how new are we talking?
but the answer is probably "3 to 3.5 across the board if i had to rate them". which is a shame honestly

If one of the last three is a 3.5, you could give this a shot.

alright i guess i'll grab a hold of this and give a try when i get the time

this was one of the shortest-feeling, easiest 70+ minute listens in recent memory for me personally. the huge difference in reactions here really is interesting.

Agreed, personally I'm baffled by those who consider this boring, safe and the likes. This is simply "next level Katatonia" imo.

DEK was a big record on this sites, follow ups are always rough when people loved the previous record. Great record. Probably their best since 2006. But then again they're an all time favorite of mine.

in fairness it's been a while since i listened to most of their discography and i didn't give their later stuff that many spins to begin with, but for some reason they never really seemed to captivate me in the same way that december souls / brave murder day did.

The style is different so it's understandable. Their first two are easy 4.5's for me but I dig the evolution. All of them are good in unique ways.

apparently in addition to the iTunes-exclusive bonus track (Wide Awake in Quietus), CD/DVD-exclusive bonus track (Vakaren, mislabeled on the leak as Wide Awake in Quietus), and box set-exclusive bonus track (Sistere), there's also a separate Japanese-exclusive bonus track (Night Comes Down). jesus christ Peaceville, you're a record company, not a video game publisher. I know Japanese bonus tracks are a thing but I assumed it'd just be a physical version of the iTunes bonus since they've done that in the past, not yet another all-new outtake.

Vakaren was mislabeled in my digibook too.
|
| |
japan always gets exclusive bonuses
i might be completely wrong on this but if i recall correctly it's because it's cheaper to just buy imports over there so they have to incentivize it somehow

@Sabrutin: on the package or in a program? it was labeled correctly on the package for me, I wouldn't know about in a program though since I enter all the track names manually on the program I use for CD-ripping.
@parksungjoon: yeah I know, but I figured it'd be either a physical version of the iTunes bonus or something like a live track or remix since that's how the Japanese bonus tracks have been for the last few Katatonia albums.

It is called "Vakaren" on the package, but the file was tagged as "Wide Awake in Quietus".
