If Bound By Gravity was just music and no vox, it would make me escape to my happy place. Vox are good but instrumentally it’s just sublime.

Instrumentally Haken are great. The vocals are just awful. It’s too bad. The bass player is Thomas MacLean ... a member (former?) of To-Mera, another great European prog metal band. I haven’t heard any news from them in a while though. Sucks.

Vocals aren't awful any more than Jon Anderson era Yes' vocals or Rush's vocals are awful.

I'm really sick of the hyperbolic treatment that prog vocals get, to be honest.

Not true. There are plenty of prog metal bands with great vocals...

Queensryche

Fates Warning

To-Mera

Klone

Evergrey

Symphony X

Subsignal

Andromeda

Sylvan

Spocks Beard

Porcupine Tree

Anubis Gate

That's off the top of my head...

I mean that prog metal vocals often get a bad rep when they shouldn't.

Problem with prog is that the artists think their songwriting / instrumental talent is superb so they can get away with subpar vocal-lines / vocalists... Ruins most prog bands imo

There is so many talented singers in prog, it's ridiculous

Vocalists aren’t trying to “get away” with anything. Kind of a ridiculous statement. Prog has a lot of unique and off kilter voices that might not vibe with some people. But I also think you’ll find this in any genre

I love how they said the new record would be more heavy and then they release this as a first single. Honestly though, it's pretty catchy and the trumpets are a nice touch. It's groovy too

Then again, there are unorthodox but nonetheless excellent vocalists in bands like Van der Graaf Generator and people throw a fit at those as well.
