I haven't heard Around the Fur but it'd probably be up there considering what everyone says.

album is overrated.

interesting ideas, poorly executed.

Deftones are the only good "nu-metal" band.

After listening to this again finally the rating went up a half point. Even today this is one of the most original and atmospheric metal albums out there. Cradle absolutely owns. This Message Edited On 02.03.08

If you don't consider Deftones nu-metal, then you're retarded. Listen to Around the Fur and then you can talk buddy. But anyway, I do agree with Tuff up there: Mudvayne had interesting ideas. The bass drives the songs while the guitarist supplements them with jazzy chording, the drums are subtly polyrhythmic and technically difficult, and yet it all amounts to a convoluted mess. The complete lack of anything melodically interesting doesn't help this album much. Still, at least they tried to break the nu-metal mould.

One of the things I like about this album is that some of the songs had melody (Dig, Eternal Primates Forever, Death Blooms for example) while others were all over the place and were basically semi-epic prog tinged romps of metal. This album has balance, and to say it has a complete lack of anything melodically interesting is a little premature (as in have you really given this at least one full listen?) IMHO.

Pulled this out again today, it's so flippin' good. Pharmaecopia is the only filler imo and the only reason I don't give the album a 5. It makes me sad that Mudvayne didn't continue writing supremely original and interesting music

You can't deny how cathartic the "Kill your alien" part is.

Listen to the 30 second clip of Fish out of Water for their new album and compare it to anything off of this. It's really amazing how far they've descended. http://www.bestbuy.com/site//olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat160200050003&type=category
