always had a soft spot for these guys, never liked an entire album by them, but always dug at least 3 or 4 songs from each record

I'm actually really digging this so far -- Title of Record will always be my favorite from Filter.

This is a perfect record if you're looking for some angsty 90's inspired mainstream industrial/nu-metal/alt rock music.

There's some good songs for sure but I just kinda found this an odd release. Richard's head is at a weird place I think, and the music is reflecting that. Too much yelling for the sake of yelling on this album too.

I'm happy Richard finally did something different and also catered to old school fans. Now he can leave the past behind and move on. I think he listened too much to those who can't get past the 90s Filter. Plus, his voice ain't that strong anymore, I don't know how he'll pull off these songs live.

Thanks for the impressive review, Raul. Compared to what I believe FILTER's ideally capable of and to the 5 star icon albums in the genre (e.g., Ænema, Downward Spiral, Superunknown, Use Your Illusion, Siamese Dream), I also gave Crazy Eyes roughly 4 stars (3.9). 4 of the 12 tracks on the album are EXCELLENT: Mother E, Nothing In My Hands, Tremors, and Your Bullets. Nothing In My Hands is a truly PERFECT FILTER song, while Mother E and Tremors are very close. But... Richard Patrick (RP) should've sold Take Me To Heaven to the Black Crowes or STP for their future comeback albums. It did not belong on Eyes and just weakened it (I delete it from digital copies). I'd like to know why RP didn't offer it up for the Transformers 5 soundtrack or something; it did NOT belong on a FILTER album.

BUT... compared to most of the industry (past and present), Eyes is a top-notch, 5 star rock album. It's authentic, furious, precise, urgent, and was produced well [-enough] by RP himself. For a 7th album from an artist who kicked off (solo, anyway) over 20 years ago, let's give due credit, that's remarkable! I think RP is capable of writing a PERFECT album and he came damn close in Title of Record. Other than TOOL, there isn't any other artist in whom I have that confidence today. This is a great album -- RP's 3rd best, after Title and Anthems For The Damned -- and, if you love the dark rock/industrial genre, getting this one is a given.

Agree, far from a masterpiece but it's refreshing hearing an angst rock record in 2016 reminiscent of the 90s

vox on mother e sounds like he's whisper-"yelling" and it's super annoying/distracting

Fuck this is heavier (and louder, production-wise) than I anticipated.

Ok this honest to God hurts my ears, even at low volumes

This album is a mess, and it is the only Filter album that has songs I straight up dislike ("Mother E", "The City of Blinding Riots"). If you cut those and re-order the tracklist this would improve a bit.

Best songs are probably "Nothing in my Hands", "Welcome to the Suck", "Tremors", "Under the Tongue" and "Your Bullets". Other than those I don't revisit this very much.
