I don't see how Toon liking more popular core music is an issue, you can clearly see that his reviews are quality and that he's able to back up his tastes

"he's able to back up his tastes"
quite a few people would disagree with that tbh, probably even me

"Agreed, it would be better. But that would basically just be an AOJB pt.2"
Yeah true, his improved vocals with some of their more technical riffing could make it stand out though.

agreed AoJB pt. 2 is what I've wanted from this band since I was like 14

Agree on the riffing, totally disagree about the vocals. The rawness in tandem with the prevalent hardcore vibes is what makes that album classic. Also, how youthful and fresh it still feels today. I doubt they could replicate that ever again, and even attempting to would probably be terrible.

Definitely see your point, there was a rawness that made that album extra bad ass. He hits moments on his screams with this album though that are really impressive in a "talented vocalist" sense, I honestly think if that was their vision they could pull it off.
Really if they just made some songs where it stayed aggressive the whole way through and made the production more raw, they would have a much more powerful sound. Not every song HAS to have a clean catchy chorus and I feel like some of the songs lost their edge because of it.

I don't know why
But I instantly thought of Bullet for my Valentine's "Tears Don't Fall Pt. 2" when I heard that.

I haven't been following this band. Listened to End Of Hearache and found that to be very enjoyable. But that was 12 years ago and I was a lot younger. So whether they have been doing the same thing for 7 albums is not taken into account and not really relevant for me. I wasn't expecting much from this album, as most of the bands from that time sound generic to me. Further, generally this type of music is better suited for the short attention span of the 'kids', than for relatively old (33y) guys like me. However, I was positively surprised upon listening and notice I have the tendency to repeat it a lot. I listen to it while working out and it has the perfect simple, melodic but powerful sound to lift weights to. It rarely bores and some and the record succeeds in putting me in a very positive and energetic state time and time again. That alone is a great accomplishment for which I rate it 4/5.

I also expected something to come alive in "Cut Me Loose".
It has few kickass songs, mostly boring stuff. 3,2 is my average. Best songs being "Hate by Design" and "Strength of the Mind".

I'm now realizing I'd like this a lot more if the clean vocals weren't fucked with. Autotune, layering and reverb take away rawness and naturalness from the vocals.

i can only imagine how shitty this is.......and imagine it will forever be
