Great review as always Doof, this band just never clicked with me.

Review is very good indeed. Probably won't check this out.

Tuna it took Strawberry Jam for them to click with me, I liked the nostalgic yet disturbed childhood vibe to that one

Can totally understand someone not clicking with this band as that was me for a few years

I might give them another go, who knows I might end up liking it.

Aside from a bit of over-reliance on the call and response vocals, this is amazing as usual. Name one Anco album that didn't grow on you.

Anthracks - Merriweather and Centipede stayed about the same, Spirit grew off me over time

You're correct, there is definitely an over reliance on the same vocal approach.

All the other albums I was thinking 'what's Avey up to, what's PB up to?' - here it's not that I can't detect each individual influence if I concentrate enough, it's more that because of the sound and songwriting I don't care. Something is missing

I feel like if more live drums were incorperated into the album à la Floridada, it would bring this to another level.

Especially on a track like "Spilling Guts". If you replaced the drum machines with some more organic drums, it would be amazing in a "We Tigers" kind of way.

@Anthracks

apparently that call-and-response technique has a name. It's called hocketing

I like it but I was fairly disappointed considering my 3 favorite tracks are the three singles released before the album.

I've listened to this front to back several times over the last couple days trying to get this to grow on me but it doesn't. I'm also convinced that Vertical is one of the worst songs I've ever heard. Natural Selection is pretty cool though
