"Pretentious. Wanky. Self-Indulgent."

Not sure if this is a troll, but this is probably DT's least "wanky" or "shreddy" album by a long shot, isn't it? Self-indulgent, maybe, the length is hard to swallow. But weren't the criticisms of this album upon release that it was too slow/ballad heavy?

Also, Portnoy was for sure a creative loss for DT, but I can't help but despise Richard Chycki's production/engineering work on post-Portnoy DT albums. 2000's DT albums, love em or hate em, sounded way more organic imo (I don't think Chycki did any production work on them... someone fact check me tho)

I don't know about that engineer thing, but for the rest: agreed 100%

You know, I decided to get this one out of the way while going through their discog. I regret that decision.

Pretty much. The good thing is, at least I don't have any conflicts anymore regarding my least favorite DT album, since this is firmly at the bottom

i can't even remember which songs I liked nor do i want to sit through this whole thing again to find them. one of the drawbacks to wiping all my last.fm loved songs

Same. Once in a while the thought will pop in my head: "hmm, maybe I should listen to this again and see if my opinion has changed." And then I remember the album's length and crazy amount of filler, and realize that there are much better uses of my time

If I want to listen to a DT double album, I'm sticking with Six Degrees

Thats next on the list. I skipped to this because I was dreading that runtime. I still regret that decision.

Somebody made a version of this album with different AI singers for every character. Not everything works but considering how big of a project that is it's still really cool.

Also I will always defend this album, imperfect as it is.
