For optimal effect listen to this whilst hanging upside down in an underwater laboratory wearing a lead apron and a gimp mask on the 12th day of the lunar cycle, positioned to face NNE as Hayley's commet passes by the earth, whilst aggressively masturbating.

seeing these guys live next month

They're rad live, at least when I saw them. They mostly played stuff from Determinism but they also played Wake and two tracks from The Anaesthete before they had names.

This is one of my top 5 in the post metal genre. Band is rad in general but this release is particularly excellent.

tough act to follow. Although their sophomore is almost on par with this , the rest of their stuff is significantly shitter imo

TGS and Wake / Lift are monumental (lol) releases. The only reason I don't list Wake / Lift as an equal release is my love / hate relationship with Temet Nosce.
ADOM is also amazing, but that album doesn't seem to carry the same full-album experience as the first two releases.
The Anastheateteta has some standouts as well, but I don't come back to it much. I honestly don't even like the new record. They added the guy from City of Ships and are now super wishy/washy just like that band was.
I get that they can only play like 4 songs live, but I hate that they ignore their old releases. They've been pretending TGS doesn't exist since W/L dropped.

"they've been pretending TGS doesn't exist." I firmly believe they don't play those songs live because they are incredibly hard to play - to make them sound how they want to them to sound. Much like Monument, which they've started to play live recently, the amount of guitar tracks on the songs is unreal.

I asked them about it when I got to open for them after ADOM came out, on that tour they all got really sick on (talked about it on the DVD). They said that they wouldn't play those songs ever again, but if they were going to it would be Au Pays Natal.
I don't think its a matter of difficulty in replicating the effects live, especially with two guitarists now. I honestly think they (or maybe just Matt) perceive themselves above metal / riffing now and have tried hard to separate themselves from it.

pretty damn silly since this album blows all of their new shit out of the water

also determinism is about on par with their first 2, maybe a bit worse. it suffers a lot from absolutely shit production but the songs are great
