It's so wild to me that this band went from briefly being maybe the poster child of American Metal of the 2000's with Six being in Guitar Hero to their singer now being a regular guest on fuckin Tim Pool's podcast lmao

I do get nostalgic for how American Metal was in the 2000's before, say, Periphery really became the dominant blueprint. Stuff like All That Remains, Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, Shadows Fall, etc. It's a sound that has almost entirely aged like milk but it really takes me back to that time and I kinda love that nobody really wants to touch it as a result lol

"This Darkened Heart is the only other album worth listening to"

Don't sleep on Behind Solace and Solitude either, it's a bit rough but that's to be expected of their first album, and I don't mind the amateur-ness of it too much. They really bring out the melodeath influence there that early melodic metalcore was going for, like Oli has some legit Gothenburg-style riffs on it.

i would not at all be against this sound making a come back, but yeah feels like we couldn't be further away from it given the seeming deftonesification of mainstream metal.

everybody is so slow and moody and moan-y and have too many strings on their guitars. need some good ole fashion drop d 80s shred metal worship done by hardcore kids STAT. trivium is like the only band keeping it alive while still doing it well.

Manticora is about to drop some no-nonsense power metal shred goodness next week, y'all might appreciate that. Not the same scene at all (they're Dutch lol) but might give you that pure metal kick you're craving.

Wasn't aware of a new Manticora. Gonna have to check that when it drops.

I can't fucking believe i gassed these guys up so hard six years ago to the point where this and This Darkened Heart were both 5's

Phil Labonte doesn't deserve the praise I gave that last album forever ago. Even if I do still casually like some of it.

ATR coined cowcore and no band ever dared approach it again

That albums tracklist has 100 to 500 streams and it isnt anything of high quality like this. Not really comparable or a comeback. You can find a present artist making every genre from the past right now. Killing Me Softly is also kinda more skramz than ATR metalcore.

Still. Killing Me Softly is pretty damn good. I would just think comparing them to Pianos Become The Teeth inspired deathcore might make more sense than a metalcore atr comparison

Fair enough. But it's more that good revivalcore that isn't "slow" like people complain about exists.

Personally I'm all for the more atmospheric stuff so it doesn't bother me.

They've got some melodeath riffing, but that style never really left. I wouldn't say it's back in vogue either

Looking back I really do wonder if Adam D didn’t ghostwrite The Fall of Ideals like he did some of the Parkway stuff. The quality differential is amazing. Half of This Darkened Heart is alright but otherwise it dumbfounds me they put so many good riffs on here and then never wrote another.
