I rate in a way that satisfies me personally, as I'm sure everyone else on the site does. I don't see how there is "no point" to it.

Most I can say is, for someone so established, this was a very daring album to put out after what was a really straightforward record. There's nothing exactly groundbreaking here, but for someone well into his career, it was a very welcome detour into different sounds.

Agreed. The perfect way to go imo

Also, which I think was very interesting, was how divisive it was when it came out and still is, even though I feel people are overrating this to a certain extent. Not because of the circumstances, but because of how consistent it was. I could name several records post-Scary Monsters that I find to be better than this, but I would say that's the greatest thing about his catalogue - that there is something for everyone.

Because you're not being true to yourself if you don't rate exactly how you feel

I knew what you meant; but still, I'm happier with the way that I rate more than I would if I rated 100% subjectively. So in that sense I am being true to myself.

GetLow, how do you rate things objectively?

I wouldn't say that I rate objectively, but rather it's kind of a mix of objectivity and subjectivity (there's no such thing as a universal objective when it comes to music, or any other art form). I for the most part look at the artist's intent and how well they execute the concept(s) they are going for, but I do also take into consideration how much I enjoyed the album personally. I've found a sort of balance between these two things which has honestly made listening to music much more enjoyable to me.

I see. Thanks for your reply.

An appreciation for the finer details. If you subjectively dislike objective brilliance than you’re a massive cunt tbh.

What is objective brilliance according to you, zakalwe?
