You can't seriously say that someone like Kendrick is equal in quality to Drake because Drake makes better pop music...

an answer to what exactly? that he is the better pop artist today?
the proof is in the pudding, whatever drake touches turns to absolute gold commercially right now and has been consistently so for years
whether you i the reviewer anyone thinks its better quality or not was not the point

"Quality is subjective is a cop out of an answer"
it can be, but in this case it isn't
|
| |
Yeah Temp when I'm saying he's a better pop rapper, I'm talking about his popularity. To me a measure of a pop artist's success is appeal and Drake has that in spades compared to...well, I don't even know, Wayne in his pop prime? No one has really become as ubiquitous as Drake in pop rap.

So his music appeals to a broader fanbase, and yeah dude I agree that Drake makes better pop music, but he's a hip hop artist so why are we talking about whose music is the better pop music?
I mean that 'quality is subjective' is a cop out of an answer to 'who's better, Kendrick or Drake?'

Drake is more popular than, say, Kanye, but popularity is a shitty measure of quality, is basically what I'm getting at
|
| |
Oh Kendrick, emphatically, for me. In terms of musical and lyrical vision, he's already a top 5 of all time in my mind. I'm saying I measure them by two different scales, by and large.
|
| |
you just said Drake makes better pop music yet are confused why we're judging his pop merits? wut is going on
and chuck wasn't favouring one artist using "quality is subjective", he was making a point about your previous post about confusing quality with popularity
|
| |
Yeah definitely Temp, they're in no way comparable. Sometimes they are correlated but certainly one never causes the other.

100%
not that drake isn't quality IMO
by the way ive been on the kdot wagon ever since the day s80 dropped, he's the shit (although i was as big on tpab)
and im a huge kanye fangay
drake is dope too, but he's different
|
| |
they both make music and one's is better than the other's it really isn't that hard to compare

"you just said Drake makes better pop music yet are confused why we're judging his pop merits? wut is going on

Because my original comment was on the quality of his music and then Chuck diverted the discussion to the quality of his pop music compared to entirely non pop artists? And I conceded that Drake has made better pop music for the past few years... If we're talking about careers that is absolutely not true
