Only listened to this thing in full once. If I recall, the second part was best. Should probably give it another spin.

Basically been binging this for the past 3 days (been getting into StS the past couple weeks). I really like each of the discs here for what they bring to the table. The third one is the most consistent and probably the best, but it's not a one size fits all; disc one finds that middle ground that StS have more recently become known for, and I think it's a natural fit for their current direction; disc two has the capacity to either bore or ease the listener, but for what it's worth I think it's serene nature is a welcome calm before the storm. As has been said, this entire project was certainly ambitious, and for the band to maintain as much variety as they do over the course of two-and-a-half hours of material is more than just commendable. Add to that the fact I think they've made each disc thorough enjoyable in their own ways and it definitely wins me over as a whole.

Anyone else feel like the chorus for Lost and Catatonic is the only thing that brings it down? The rest of the song is wonderfully atmospheric but then the chorus breaks the immersion.

Jammed it first thing this morning when I woke up. It is VERY ambient for them. The video is beautiful and haunting and pairs well with the music, but I could see it being a polarizing listen for fans of this band.

Also FYI To On Dude, if you drop a [ URL ] and a [ /URL ] (spaces removed) before and after your link it will make it clickable to make it easier for our sputnik brethren.

New song is barely a song.
These mofos should get their asses back to writing RIFFS again.

I'm hoping to have a rough draft of a review for the new album done today. If I can really crank it out, I should have it posted today as well.

no riffing agreed...but everything is very well done - 3 to 3.5 album...but can grow depending on your taste.

I think Mikko's vocals work really well with his black metal project Alghazanth:

But really not as much on StS stuff. His cleans have certainly improved since Plague of Butterflies though

It's honestly one of those albums you need to be in the mood for to enjoy. Normally I'd feel more critically towards it, but I recently had a down moment mentally and emotionally, and hearing it during that stretch made it suddenly resonate much easier.
