the way the melody speeds up around the verse at 2 minutes with the "ashing cigarettes on gravestones, unfollowing my dead friends" might be my favourite songwriting moment they've ever done especially with the subtle electronics kicking in in the background. I'd say pay strong attention to that bit next listen if you want

Both albums are like a 4.25 for me.

I've been listening to Nearer My God quite a bit today too and it's been growing on me but it still just doesn't sound like them and rather more akin to something I'd expect from Smidley which is still a good thing obviously.
