I'd say they're alt rock that really wear a lot of metalcore tendencies on their sleeves, lots of chugging riffs and breakdowns but an alt rock band at heart.

I don't get how this sounds like Deftones. Just because they alternate between heavy and softer moments? The guitar tone is completely different, the singer isnt even remotely similar to Chino and the compositions are not similar either. Still a very cool album, tho.

They did wear the Deftones influences quite brazenly on their sleeve over the last few years, not least by covering both 'Minerva' and 'My Own Summer', but I think this is doing a great job of standing alone - although I'm still seeing a big similarity between the T/T and 'Diamond Eyes' - even if that is just me!

only thing that bothers me is that the transitions between radio rock choruses and heavier parts aren't really that fluid and come off as forced
