That summary :3 I can't wait to listen to this, particularly as I'm now more or less convinced that it won't suck. Your review was great, hard pos.

They've made quite a habit of gorgeous album art, but this is my favourite of theirs apart from maybe the Alternate Endings one.

The Be Human art was a bit 'meh' for me, agreed Alternate Endings was beaut.

I liked Gunship a lot more than this

This is everything I could have hoped for and more. Sharp Tongue is one of the best opening tracks I've heard in a while.

The review sold me and I'm glad I took a chance. These guys should be packing amphitheaters.

"Fightstar are a peculiar beast to figure out. When debut full-length Grand Unification dropped in 2006, despite an obvious wealth of talent, there was an underlying feeling that they were happy to cement themselves within their peer group of British post-hardcore acts, rather than make a genuine name for themselves – and that it was merely enough Charlie Simpson to shake the boy-band shadow from his back.
Then with the releases of One Day Son, This Will All Be Yours and Be Human two and three years later respectively, the undeniable winds of change were blowing: both records were littered with radio-friendly singles, and surprising stabs of rage and weakness in equal measure, but the experimentation of ideas prevented true cohesion.
Then they went away in the blink of an eye."
this could all be merged into one paragraph, I don't really see the need to split those all into separate sections.

Because there's clear temporal progression... The paragraph's are separated at "then" in both instances.

"Over the following years the promise that they had shown on these records has been truly appreciated (and indeed missed), new fans have come forward, and in their absence, there has been real demand for their return.
Behind The Devils Back is just that. Boosted by four stellar singles in the run-up to release, hype has been steadily amassing. But what, if any, strides have been taken by the band in this comparatively large time away?"
same deal
the next (two?) paragraph(s) have a spacing issue, I'd merge them into on paragraph. Otherwise, good review.

"Because there's clear temporal progression... The paragraph's are separated at "then" in both instances."
That doesn't really matter, if I separated every paragraph in my reviews because there's a "then" at the beginning just for the sake of progression it would look pretty redundant and stick out like a sore thumb.

without a really big payoff at the end, this just feels like a collection of songs, not a cohesive album. and with an opener as windblowing as sharp tongue, i thought there'd be more of an epic closer.

melodies arent that good

As much as I hate how predictable this band have become with album releases it doesn't annoy me that this record doesn't have an epic finish. They no doubt have several more songs that will be packed into a 'Behind The Devil's Back (Deluxe) in 6-12 months from now, I despise that practice normally but they are good enough to get away with it.
As for the album. Still listening to it for the first time, but it's stellar so far. These guys have seemingly managed to craft a sound of their own for the first time. They were always recognisable thanks to Charlie Simpson's voice but now the rest of the outfit sounds like they are Fightstar and no one else.

yeah it's too short for it's own good. Sharp Tongue and the t/t sound too similar and More Human Than Human is pure filler. But those are really my only real problems with this. Everything else is pretty damn good.
