wow really? With the cool strings alone I'd put this at at least a 2.5.

well no, i commented on the news post on oct 13 and you rated it on oct 17. i just held off rating because i suspected the stream quality was bunk and maybe the proper version woulda boosted my perspective of it maybe (?)

i'm liking it more on the second listen, but it just seems a little melodramatic and same-y throughout. i wish they kept some of the more metal/heavy aspects of their last release, which are nearly non-existent here

There is so, so much on here that is ripped straight from Mono. The main melody that makes up the crescendo of Mono's Ashes in the Snow has been reworked and reused in most of the songs on this album. Not to mention the very ending of the album is the lifted straight from the end of Mono's Everlasting Light. I mean... it's almost fair to say that this is little more than a remix of Mono's catalogue of work, plucking most of its ideas from Hymn to the Immortal Wind and For My Parents. I guess it's an homage and there's not really anything wrong with that. But then again there's a difference between mimicking a band's general aesthetic (orchestral strings, tremolo-picked guitars, etc.) and straight-up copying specific melodies. It makes me a little uneasy and I almost feel guilty for liking this when I feel like I should hate it out of principle and in defense of Mono, who are one of my favourite bands.

there's only so many different post rock crescendos that hit hard enough to use as the climax, theyre gonna start sounding similar eventually, idk. I think this album is massive.
