Gravity's Union takes me right back to IKSSE3.
This one? Takes me nowhere, doesn't feel like the same band. But it's good enough, just missing the magic. I respect their decision to stray from the concept now more than I once did.

I really can't like this album. IKSOSE:3 is my favorite album of all time and I adore Second Stage, Good Apollo I, and Ascension but this album joins Year of the Black Rainbow and Descension in the mostly ignored pile.
So much of this album is boring and generic. I also hate a lot of the lyrics. Everyone is correct in saying that Coheed is best when they're writing darker material. I think IKSOSE:3 hits the perfect balance of dark and somewhat light-hearted songs with Three Evils, Faint of Hearts, Blood Red Summer, and A Favor House Atlantic.
Essentially all of this album is whiny pop to me. I don't know that any of it is as bad as 2's My Favorite 1 as far as cringe pop goes but I still don't like it.
And for the record The Hard Sell and Guns of Summer are the worst Coheed songs. The Hard Sell has some of the worst lyrics I've ever heard, especially in the chorus.

I give Descension a bit of a pass because of Number City and Iron Fist being absolute gems and the end of Gravity's Union is great. Everything else is average to bad for me. I suppose Pretelethal is pretty dope too.
