There's only one annoying moment (in a 1h and a half album) and that is the first half of Everyday is an Emergency if I remember correctly, the rest is gold.

the first half of that song is merely okay, surely the weakest part of the entire album, but even then, it's very well done and layered with a great amount of detail and excellent instrumentation. This is very much a headphones album.

i happen to like it lol... reminds me a little of phase music a la Steve Reich and "palace of wind", that's a kick-ass record everyone should check out.

To clarify - 'I Shall Love 2' is where I consider the turning point on the album.

This very year's Anna Von Hausswolff is way better at the attempted style of those first 6 toons imo - like, there's drama, there's a reason, theres an atmosphere that doesn't seem all hella kinds of contrived

I'm amazed (as ever) there's such an appreciation for an artist being quite so indulgent but...and don't kill me....everyone wants to find an AOTY this time of the year so 'big statement' albums become the 'Oscar bait' type deal for a lot of listeners so there's that. Don't doubt it.

The idea that this is a more successful album from Holter than 'Loud City Song'...no, even the album from 'I Shall' onwards is nowhere near as endearing.

I’m also amazed people here get so upset with someone rating an album a 2/5 and reasoning they find it ‘the boring side of average’

Most of the album I think is ‘good’ but there’s no way this material demanded the attempted epic we ended up with. A ‘less is more’ Doof 3.5 rating was there maybe (sure Julia will sleep better knowing that)

I'm gonna try a few more times with the new one but, yeah, as it stands right now I just find so little enjoyment from it as music. Guess I'll chalk it up to one of those respect but don't like kind of records.

Never heard of this chick beforehand but the new album has some really great material, especially after the first few tracks (about where you pointed out actually Doof), I do get the feeling it could've benefited from a trim & a little (perhaps a lot) less self-indulgence but I'm still working may way through it, there's a lot to digest.
